Sosnov, Ivan

Born Sept. 2 (15), 1908, in Gorlovka, in what is now Donetsk Oblast. Soviet state figure. Member of the CPSU since 1940.

The son of a worker, Sosnov graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Railroad Transport Engineering in 1933. From 1933 to 1945 he worked as an administrator in the construction of railroad facilities. Between 1945 and 1948 he served as deputy head of the Central Administration of Railroad Construction of the Ministry of Railroads of the USSR and as chief engineer of the Volga Railroad District. From 1948 to 1958 he headed the Central Board of Railroad Construction of the Ministry of Railroads of the USSR and the Ministry of Transportation Construction of the USSR. He was deputy minister of transportation construction from 1958 to 1963 and first deputy chairman of the State Production Committee on Transportation Construction of the Council of Ministers of the USSR from 1963 to 1965. Sosnov was first deputy minister of transportation construction of the USSR from 1965 to 1975, when he was named minister.

Sosnov became a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1976. He was a deputy to the ninth and tenth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Sosnov received the State Prize of the USSR in 1976 and has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, six other orders, and various medals.
