Sos’va
an urban-type settlement in Serov Raion, Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR, on the left shore of the Sos’va River (Ob’ River basin). Railroad station 100 km southeast of Serov. Sos’va has a wood-products combine, a timber-chemistry plant, and a milk plant.
Sos’va
a river in Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR; a right confluent of the Tavda River of the Tobol and Ob’ river basins. The Sos’va is 635 km long and drains an area of 24,700 sq km. It originates on the eastern slope of the Northern Urals. Most of the Sos’va’s basin is on the Western Siberian Plain. The river is fed primarily by snow. The water level fluctuates 5–6 m annually in the lower and middle courses. The mean flow rate 140 km from the mouth is 113 cu m per sec. The maximum flow rate is 2,210 cu m per sec, and the minimum, 4.48 cu m per sec. The Sos’va freezes in early November, and the ice breaks up in April. The river is used for floating timber. It is navigable for a distance of 333 km from the mouth.
