Rennick Glacier

Rennick Glacier

a glacier on the northern coast of Victoria Land, East Antarctica. Rennick Glacier drains into the sea in the eastern part of the Oates Coast. It is more than 200 km long and reaches 50 km in width. At times the edge of the glacier extends into the sea and forms a ledge that subsequently breaks off, resulting in the formation of a bay. Rennick Bay was discovered in 1911 by the British expedition of R. Scott. It was named for an officer on the Terra Nova, the expedition’s ship. The name “Rennick” was later given to the glacier.
