Vazuza
Vazuza
a river in Smolensk and Kalinin oblasts, RSFSR, a right tributary of the Volga. Length, 162 km; basin area, 7,120 sq km. It rises on the northern slopes of the Smolensk Hills. Along its upper reaches it has a rather broad valley, but at the city of Sychevka it cuts into limestone formations, grows narrower, and at places becomes choked with rapids. It is fed by snow and rain. The Vazuza freezes in November and opens up in early April. The city of Zubtsov is located at the point where it enters the Volga.
