Votkinsk Hydroelectric Power Plant

Votkinsk Hydroelectric Power Plant

a hydroelectric power station of the Kama Cascade near the city of Chaikovskii, Perm’ Oblast, 30 km from the city of Votkinsk. The plant has an installed capacity of 1,000 megawatts (1 million kilowatts) and an average annual electric power output of 2,320 million kilo watt-hours. Construction of the hydrosystem began in 1955, the first unit began operation in 1961, and the station was brought up to full capacity in 1963. The hydrosystem consists of an eight-span spillway dam, 191 m long and 44.5 m high; hydraulic earth-fill dams with a total length of 4.79 km and a maximum height of 35 m; a power plant building 308 m long; and a two-lane single-chamber lock. The pressure-head structures have a total length of 5.4 km and form the Votkinsk Reservoir. The power plant machine room is equipped with ten 100 megawatt hydrogenerators. The electric power generated by the power station is transmitted over 500, 220, and 110 kilovolt high-voltage power lines. The Votkinsk Hydroelectric Power Plant is one of the key electric power stations in the consolidated power system of the Urals.
