Separation of the two pubic bones at the PUBIC SYMPHYSIS. This may occur in the course of major injury or in the course of giving birth to a large baby when the pelvic ligaments have become lax under the influence of hormones. Pubic diastasis in childbirth causes pain in the region which may last for weeks, and which is made made worse by weight bearing.
