Sarhad

a plateau in Iran in the southern part of the east Iranian Uplands. The plateau extends from northwest to southeast for approximately 400 km. The ranges have elevations of 2,500–3,000 m, and the vast depressions separating the ranges reach a height of approximately 1,500 m. The highest peak is the extinct volcano Mount Taftan (4,042 m), which is covered with snow most of the year. There are mountain deserts and semideserts with thickets of thorny cushionshaped shrubs; above 2,000 m there are mountain steppes. Dry farming is practiced on the gentle slopes.
