Tsiurupinsk

 

(until 1928, Aleshki), a city and the administrative center of Tsiurupinsk Raion, Kherson Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, 20 km from the Radenskoe railroad station (on the Kherson-Dzhankoi line). Landing on the Konka River. Population, 19,000 (1974). Tsiurupinsk has a paper-and-pulp factory, a dairy, a winery, and a clothing factory. The Kherson Fish-processing Combine is located in the city. The Nizhnednepr Scientific Research Station for the Forestation of Sands and Wine-growing on Sand is in Tsiurupinsk. There is a veterinary school. Tsiurupinsk is also the site of the A. D. Tsiurupa Museum (a branch of the Kherson Museum of Local Lore), which was founded in honor of Tsiurupa, who was born in Aleshki.
