Shop Physician

(in Russian, strakhovoi vrach), in the USSR, a medical position introduced in the 1930’s at enterprises of the main branches of industry. Shop physicians assisted trade unions in supervising medical services for workers and employees and in administering preventive medical measures. Since the late 1950’s these functions have been performed by authorized physicians.
