Sarymsakty
a mountain range of the Southern Altai, in Vostochnyi Kazakhstan Oblast, Kazakh SSR. The Sarymsakty Range is approximately 60 km long and rises to an elevation of 3,373 m at Mount Burkitaul. It is composed of effusive rocks, tuffs, argillaceous schists, sandstones, and granites. Glaciers occupy an area of 1 sq km. The northern slope is steep and strongly dissected, with forests to elevations of 1,900–2,100 m. The southern slope is gentler and covered with steppe meadows with scrub vegetation, which give way to subalpine and alpine meadows and mountain tundra.
