P0285000 (pē-kärd′, -kär′), Auguste 1884-1962. Swiss physicist and aeronaut known for his experiments at extreme altitudes and depths. He designed a balloon that in 1932 carried him close to 17,000 meters (almost 56,000 feet) and invented a bathyscaphe that in 1953 reached a depth of about 3,150 meters (10,335 feet).
