Akhalgori Treasure

the remains of a rich burial site (where a human was buried with a horse) found in 1908 in the former Georgian village of Akhalgori (present-day Leningori, Iuzhnaia Osetiia Autonomous Oblast). The find includes many gold and silver artifacts, bronze ornaments, and the like. The objects were made at various times, but the bulk of them, those of most recent origin, are ascribed to the fifth century B.C. Most of the objects found were the work of local artisans. The Akhalgori treasure testifies to the sharply defined socioeconomic differentiation of local society in the middle of the first millennium B.C.
