Location:Coastal North Carolina, on the north shore of Pamlico Sound.

Special Features:Swanquarter NWR supports one of the northernmost populations of the American alligator.
Habitats: 16,411 acres of brackish marsh and forested wetlands.
Access: Open during daylight hours.
Wild life: Wading birds, shorebirds, ducks, osprey, bald eagle, and American alligators.
