Vakhtan

an urban-type settlement in Shakhun’ia Raion, Gorky Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the river Bolshoi Vakhtan (basin of the Vetluga), 26 km northwest of the railroad station of Tonshaevo (on the Gorky-Kotel’nich line). Population, 11,800 (1969). Vakhtan has a logging and timber distribution establishment, a rosin-extracting plant, and a wood-chemical industrial enterprise.
