Akhmatbek Suttubaevich Suiumbaev

Born Dec. 17, 1920, in the village of Orto-Alash, formerly in Alamedin, now in Kant Raion, Kirghiz SSR. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the CPSU since 1942.

The son of a peasant, Suiumbaev graduated from the All-Union Correspondence Institute of Finance and Economics in 1954. In 1938 and 1939 he worked in the field of finance. From 1939 to 1947, Suiumbaev served in the Soviet Army; he fought in the Great Patriotic War (1941–45). In 1947 and 1948 he worked in the Soviet administration.

Beginning in 1948, Suiumbaev worked as a financial administrator in the Kirghiz SSR. From 1952 to 1954 he was chief administrator of the Ministry of Finance. In 1954 and 1955 he was head of the Issyk-Kul’ Oblast Department of Finance, and from 1955 to 1960, minister of finance of the Kirghiz SSR. From 1960 to 1962, Suiumbaev was chairman of the Osh Oblast Executive Committee. Since 1962 he has been first secretary of the Osh Oblast Committee of the Communist Party of Kirghizia; in 1963 and 1964 he was first secretary of the Osh Rural Oblast Committee of the Communist Party of Kirghizia.

Since January 1968, Suiumbaev has been chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Kirghiz SSR. He was a delegate to the Twenty-second through Twenty-fifth Congresses of the CPSU; since 1971 he has been a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU. He is a member of the Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kirghizia. Suiumbaev was a deputy to the sixth through ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He has been awarded two orders of Lenin, four other orders, and several medals.
