Akhmed Iasavi

 

Born circa 1105; died 1166. Middle Asian Sufi poet and preacher. Wrote in the Chagati language.

Akhmed Iasavi is the author of Khikmat (1878 edition), a collection of mystical religious poetry. The value of the collection lies chiefly in the folk forms that entered into his poems. The language also contains elements of Oghuz dialects. Akhmed Iasavi achieved great popularity. His poetry began being reprinted in Kazan and Tashkent in the 19th century.
