Akhmedi Khani

 

Born in Baiazet, birth date unknown; died in 1652. Kurdish poet, philologist, and enlightener.

Akhmedi Khani is the author of Naubakhari, an Arabic-Kurdish lexicon in verse, and the romantic poem Mam and Zin, based on the theme of the popular folk epic Mame Alan; the poem is written in the mathnawi form, in the hadjaz meter, and consists of 3,617 bayts (couplets). Akhmedi Khani Overcame the sketchy nature of subject treatment and character sketches that typified medieval literature and brought philosophical reflections and his own personal relationship to his environment to the poem. The first edition of Mam and Zin was published in Istanbul in 1920.
