Valdai Lake

(also Valdai), a lake in the center of the Valdai Hills in Novgorod Oblast, RSFSR. Area (without the islands), 19.7 sq km. Average depth, 12 m; maximum depth, 60 m.

Valdai Lake is divided into two equal parts by an island in the center. The canal (150 m long) is joined to Lake Uzhin. Small rivers empty into the lake, and the Valdaika River flows from it. The lake freezes in early December and thaws in early May. The city of Valdai is situated along the shore of Valdai Lake.
