Akhremchik, Ivan Osipovich
Born Dec. 3 (16), 1903, in Minsk. Soviet painter. People’s artist of the Byelorussian SSR (1949). Member of the CPSU since 1965.
Akhremchik studied at the Moscow State Higher Arts and Technical Institute from 1922 to 1930 under A. V. Shevchenko. Between 1944 and 1948 he was chairman of the board of the Artists’ Union of the Byelorussian SSR. He taught at the Byelorussian Polytechnic Institute from 1953 to 1963. He has been a professor at the Byelorussian Institute of Theater Arts since 1963. Among his students were P. V. Maslenikov and M. A. Savitskii. He has painted numerous portraits, landscapes, thematic pictures, and monumental murals. He has been awarded two orders and various medals.
