Akhtanov, Takhavi
Born Oct. 25, 1923, in the village of Karabutak, Aktiubinsk Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Kazakh Soviet writer. Member of the CPSU since 1943.
Akhtanov graduated from the Alma-Ata Pedagogical Institute. He took part in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45. He is the author of the novel Stormy Days (1957), about the exploits of Soviet soldiers during the years of the great Patriotic War, the drama Saule (1962), and the novella Snow Tempest (1963), about the life and work of the shepherds. He translated A. N. Tolstoy’s trilogy The Road to Calvary into Kazakh. He has been awarded three orders in addition to medals.
