Akhtubinsk

 

a city; center of Vladimirovka Raion, Astrakhan Oblast, RSFSR. Landing (Vladimirovka) on the left bank of the Akhtuba River (a branch of the Volga); railroad station. Population, 30,000 (1968). Industry includes a meat combine and canning, ship-repair, and brick plants. Salt mined on Lake Baskunchak is shipped through Akhtubinsk. Akhtubinsk was formed in 1959 from the three populated areas Vladimirovka, Petropavlovskoe, and Akhtuba.
