visceral manipulation

visceral manipulation

Osteopathy
A general term for the stretching, kneading and gentle poking of deep tissues (e.g., gallbladder and other internal organs), with the intent of enhancing the flow of fluids and energy and releasing restrictions. Visceral manipulation is based on the belief that visceral organs can become distorted from tension and connective tissues dried out, resulting in “sticking” of bodily functions (e.g., constipation); according to this posit, normal bodily functions can be enhanced by periodic manipulation.
