Unhairing Machine

Unhairing Machine

a machine for removing the bristles from hog carcasses. Unhairing machines are classified as batch-type horizontal-transverse, continuous-action horizontal-longitudinal, and vertical machines depending on the positioning of the carcasses.

In the USSR horizontal-transverse machines are used. They have a frame with three internally mounted horizontal drums equipped with steel scrubbers rotating in a single direction at different speeds. The hog bristles are removed by the scrubbers and washed away with hot water. The treated carcass is then loaded onto a receiving table. The productivity of such machines is 100 carcasses per hr.

In horizontal-longitudinal machines the carcass is positioned alongside a cleaning drum by means of rotating screw shafts running along the length of the machine. In vertical machines the carcass is suspended by its hind legs and transported by a conveyor as the bristles are removed with scrubbers. [23–1568—4]
