Saulitis, Bruno

 

(Bruno Saulītis). Born Dec. 20, 1922, in Riga; died July 9, 1970, in Jumprava, Ogre Raion. Soviet Latvian writer.

Saulitis published his first work in 1941. He is the author of the poetry collections The Breath of the Daugava (1959), The Book of Seasons (1967), and Eternal Hope (1971), in which he extols the beauty of his native land and the courage of its people. He also published the novellas The Years of Youth (1956), The Professor’s Sons (1957; Russian translation, 1959), and The Rifleman’s Son (1960; Russian translation, 1962) and the novel The Road Under the Ash Trees (1969; Russian translation, 1972).
