Piercy, Marge Piercy, Marge (m. Wood)(1936— ) poet, writer; born in Detroit, Mich. She studied at the University of Michigan (B.A. 1957) and Northwestern (M.A. 1958). She held a number of jobs before she could earn her living as a writer. After living in many cities from San Francisco to Paris, she settled in Wellfleet, Mass. Active as a progressive and feminist, she is known for poetry that focuses on social problems, as in To Be of Use (1973), and for her novels with feminist themes, such as Women on the Edge of Time (1976). Much of her work also deals with Jewish themes. |
