Udris, Rudol’f Iur’evich

 

Born Feb. 17, 1899, in Balt-pamúzis; died May 30, 1949, in Dzerzhinsk. Soviet chemist. Member of the CPSU from 1919. Commissar in the Red Army from 1919 to 1925.

After graduating from the N. E. Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School in 1930, Udris headed the Central Laboratory of Chemical Synthesis. Together with B. D. Kruzhalov and P. G. Sergeev, he developed a method of preparing acetone and phenol from benzene and propylene using cumene; this method was implemented in Soviet industry in 1949.
