Born January 1905 in the village of Nudo, near the city of Niksic; died June 13, 1943, in the village of Krekovi, on the Sutjeska River. Yugoslav military figure; People’s Hero of Yugoslavia (July 6, 1943, posthumously). Son of a peasant. Member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (CPY) from 1925.

Kovačevic was a member of the regional committee of the CPY in Montenegro and Boka on the eve of the occupation of Yugoslavia by the fascist German troops (April 1941). Kovacevic was one of the organizers of the partisan movement in Montenegro from 1941. He commanded the Niksic Partisan Detachment in 1941, the 5th Montenegran Proletarian Brigade in 1942–43, and the 3rd Division of the People’s Liberation Army of Yugoslavia from March 1943. He was a member of the Supreme Staff of the People’s Liberation Army of Yugoslavia. Kovaöevic died during an assault on enemy fortifications on the Sutjeska River while breaking out of an encirclement.
