Paulus, Pierre
Born Mar. 16, 1881, in Châtelet, Hainaut; died 1959, in Brussels. Belgian painter.
Paulus studied with his father, a sculptor and decorator, and at the Brussels Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He painted realistic landscapes of the industrial regions of the Borinage. His paintings devoted to the life of the Walloon miners and metalworkers are outstanding depictions of workers. Paintings by Paulus include Youth (1909, in the town hall at Charleroi), Mining Village (Museum of Modern Art, Brussels), and The Drowned Worker (1950).
