Established: Authorized on November 12, 1996.
Location:Extends 240 miles across 14 counties in western South Carolina, stretching from the mountains of Oconee County, along the Savannah River, to the port city of Charleston.
Special Features:This corridor, bounded at one end by the ancient port city of Charleston and at the other by the mountains of the Blue Ridge, contains historic, cultural, and natural resources that tell the story of South Carolina's -- and the South's -- centuries-long evolution and culture. Two routes begin in the mill villages, waterfalls, and mountains of the Up Country; run through historic courthouse towns and military sites and along the Savannah River; and follow the Edisto River and the South Carolina Railroad to the Low Country’s wealth of African-American and antebellum history, centered in and around historic Charleston.
