(trans'kyū-tā'nē-ŭs blŭd gas mon'i-tŏr) A device that uses miniature electrodes applied to the skin to estimate blood oxygen and carbon dioxide tension; the transcutaneous carbon dioxide tension (tcPCO2) provides a relatively accurate estimate of arterial carbon dioxide (PaCO2) in all age groups; the estimate of transcutaneous oxygen tension (tcPO2) is more accurate in neonates and small children.
