Piezoelectric Geophone
a device for the reception of sound waves that are propagated through rocks. A piezoelectric transducer is used as the receiver. The device is used to locate the origin of the signals sent by miners in the event of a sudden cave-in. It can pick up the sound waves produced by striking a rock with a metal object at a distance of up to 70 m. The origin of the signals is determined by placing the geophone in two listening positions. Piezoelectric geophones are used by rescue teams in mines.
