[pē¦ā·zō·ri¦zis·tiv ′sen·sər] (engineering) A transducer which converts variations in mechanical stress into an electrical output; it consists of an element of piezoresistive material that is connected to a Wheatstone bridge circuit and is placed on a highly stressed part of a suitable mechanical structure, usually attached to a cantilever or other beam configuration.
