Savchenko, Mariia Kharitonovna

 

Born Apr. 14 (27), 1913, in the village of Tshkari, in what is now Lebedin Raion, Sumy Oblast. Kolkhoz production innovator. Twice Hero of Socialist Labor (1948, 1958). Member of the CPSU since 1945.

Savchenko worked in the Chervona Zoria Kolkhoz (now the V. I. Lenin Kolkhoz in Lebedin Raion) as a field worker (1929–36), a calf herder (1936–41), and a milkmaid (1944–61). She achieved milk yields of 5,810 kg per cow (1947), 6,138 kg (1948), and 8,905 kg (1959). In 1962 she took charge of a livestock farm at the same kolkhoz, achieving average milk yield per cow of 4,850 kg (1970), 4,882 kg (1971), and 4,536 kg (1972). Savchenko was a delegate to the Twentieth through Twenty-Second Congresses of the CPSU, and a delegate to the Sixteenth and the Eighteenth through the Twenty-third Congresses of the Communist Party of the Ukraine. Since 1954 she has been a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Ukraine. She was a deputy to the second through eighth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR.

Savchenko has been awarded the Order of Lenin three times, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
