Azov Upland

an upland in the southeastern Ukrainian SSR, in Zaporozh’e and Donetsk oblasts, with elevations to 324 m (Mount Mogila Bel’mak). The upland slopes gently down to the Sea of Azov. The main surface features result from the relief of the crystalline foundation, which is covered with loess-like rocks. The Molochnaia, Berda, and Obitochnaia rivers, which empty into the Sea of Azov, rise in the upland. Southern chernozems predominate, and the upland is cultivated extensively. Sheep fescue and feather grass steppe vegetation still grow on parts of the slopes. A section of the Ukrainian Steppe Preserve, Kamennye Mogily, is located on the upland.
