Pulcinella

a stock type in the Italian commedia dell’arte that first appeared in southern Italy (Naples) in the 1590’s. A witty and lively character, Pulcinella was often the generator of satire in a play. His traditional appearance is that of a hunchback with a large hooked nose who wears a high pointed hat.
