Baku Strata

an ancient rock mass of the Apsheron Peninsula and other areas of the basin of the Caspian Sea, dating to the lower Anthropogenic period. It was identified by the Swedish geologist G. Sjögren in 1891. A typical occurrence exhibits marine saltwater sandstones (sand and coquina debris including Didacna and Dreissensia polymorpha) extending from several tens of meters to several hundreds of meters in thickness. The upper part of the stratum is formed by continental loams.
