Wakhan Darya
a river in northeastern Afghanistan; one of the sources of the Amu Darya. Merges with the Pamir River near the border between Afghanistan and the Tadzhik SSR to form the Piandzh (Panj) River. Length, 220 km. The Wakhan Darya rises from the Vrevskii Glacier in the southern edge of the Pamir. It is called the Wakhjir until its confluence with the Karakia River. It flows in a deep valley between the Vakhan Range and the Hindu Kush.
