Valentin Aleskovskii

Aleskovskii, Valentin Borisovich

 

Born May 21 (June 3), 1912, in the city of Mary, in what is now the Turkmen SSR. Soviet chemist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1972). Member of the CPSU since 1943.

After graduating from the Lensovet Leningrad Technological Institute in 1937, Aleskovskii joined the staff of the institute; from 1965 to 1975 he served as its rector. In 1975 he became the rector of Leningrad State University. Aleskovskii’s principal works are devoted to the synthesis of inorganic materials. He obtained a number of catalysts, adsorbents, and electrode materials, and he developed a method that has been applied in industry for the “chemical assembly” of materials and products.

Aleskovskii has been awarded the Order of Lenin, four other orders, and several medals.
