Academic Clinical Fellowship

A post (job) which is the first phase of the integrated academic training pathway (IATP) for junior doctors/trainees who are planning a career in academics in the UK. A candidate may take this post after a two-year Academic Foundation (AF1, AF2). The academic clinical fellowship is a three-year competency-based and specialty-specific post; it is 25% academic and 75% clinical training. The fellowships are centrally funded by the National Institute for Health Research and implemented by the post-graduate deaneries. By the end of the third year, fellows will be expected to compile an externally funded doctoral fellowship leading to a higher academic research degree (MD or PhD).
