PIGR A gene on chromosome 1q31-q41 that encodes polymeric immunoglobulin receptor, which binds IgA or IgM at the basolateral surface of epithelial cells. As the IgA or IgM complex is transported across the cell for secretion at the apical surface, the extracellular (secretory) component is cleaved from the transmembrane macromolecule.PIGR
