Piket
(1) A point in an area marked by a wooden or metal pin driven into the ground. In leveling these points are used for positioning rods and temporarily marking the leveling line of the area. The profile of the area is drawn according to the elevations of the pikety. In railroad surveying pikety mark the axis of the roadbed. Their positions are fixed more securely on operating railroad lines by means of posts.
(2) A unit of measure used in the USSR for the length of railroad lines; it is equal to 100 m.
(3) A term sometimes applied to buildings used in forest protection service cottages, roadway booths, and other structures.
