sweat testing

Neurology A test used to identify defects of the autonomic nervous system; in contrast to ST for cystic fibrosis–which evaluates a specific component of sweat–ie, Cl, Na+, ST determines whether sweating is occurring at all; failure to sweat indicates a defect in the efferent sympathetic pathway between the hypothalamus and the skin or, far less commonly, lack of sweat glands, which occurs in ectodermal dysplasia.
