Viatka Horse

 

a light harness horse bred since antiquity in the northern forest regions, mainly in the Udmurt ASSR and Kirov Oblast, RSFSR. The Viatka horse is of low stature and matures late, but it is very robust and well adapted to local climatic and feeding conditions. The average measurements of a stallion are: height at the withers, 140.8 cm; diagonal length of the body, 146 cm; girth, 164.2; and circumference of the front cannon bone, 18.7 cm. The colors of the Viatka horse may be buckskin, brown, chestnut, or bay. Breeding work is aimed at increasing the horse’s size and work capacity.
