pilocarpine hydrochloride

(pī″lă-kahr′pēn″) C11H16N2O2·HCl; the hydrochloride of an alkaloid obtained from leaflets of Pilocarpus jaborandi and P. microphyllus.

Action/Uses

It is used as a cholinergic. Because it causes contraction of the pupil, it is used topically as a miotic, esp. in glaucoma.
