Shpital’skii, Evgenii Ivanovich
Born Sept. 16 (28), 1879, in Ardagan, Kars Oblast, in what is now Turkey; died Nov. 23,1931. Soviet physical chemist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1929).
Shpital’skii graduated from Moscow University in 1904 and subsequently worked there. His main works dealt with catalysis and electrochemistry. Shpital’skii developed a theory of intermediate compounds in homogeneous catalysis and proposed a method for the production of white leads (the Shpital’skii method).
