vodas[′vō‚das] (electronics) A voice-operated switching device used in transoceanic radiotelephone circuits to suppress echoes and singing sounds automatically; it connects a subscriber's line automatically to the transmitting station as soon as he starts speaking and simultaneously disconnects it from the receiving station, thereby permitting the use of one radio channel for both transmitting and receiving without appreciable switching delay as the parties alternately talk.
