Voenno-Meditsinskii Zhurnal

(Military Medical Journal), a monthly journal; organ of the Central Military Medical Administration of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR. One of the oldest Russian medical periodicals (published since 1823) and the first Russian journal devoted to military medicine.

Prominent figures in military medicine, including N. I. Pirogov and A. A. Charukovskii, worked on Voennomeditsinskii zhurnal. Since 1858 it has been issued monthly. In 1917 it ceased publication, but in 1929 the Main Military Hygiene Administration of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army began to publish the monthly military medical journal Voenno-sanitarnoe delo (Military Hygiene), which was renamed Voenno-meditsinskii zhurnal in 1944. (From 1930 to 1933, the journal was published by the Military Medical Academy.) Voenno-meditsinskii zhurnal elucidates theoretical and practical problems in both general and military medicine.
