Southern Guinea Upland
Southern Guinea Upland
a plateau in Central Africa that bounds the Congo Basin on the west. It is a highly dissected exposure of Precambrian basement of the craton sometimes called the African shield. The northern margin is in Cameroon and has elevations of 1,500–2,000 m. Further south, elevations drop to 700–1,000 m in the Cristal Mountains; they rise again to 1,500 m in the southern part of the upland. The Southern Guinea Upland has humid evergreen equatorial forests and park-like savannas.
