constellation of faciopharyngoglossomasticatory diplegia with automatic voluntary dissociation without associated dementia or forced laughing or crying usually caused by bilateral large artery infarcts of the opercular cortex; most often due to developmental abnormalities (for example, polymicrogyria), infarctions, or encephalitis.
