Verkhniaia Pyshma

a city founded in 1946 in Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR, on the upper reaches of the Pyshma River, 12 km north of Sverdlovsk, with which it is connected by a highway. Population, 36,000 (1969). It has a copper electrolite factory (launched in 1934). It also has factories producing fire-resistant materials, reinforced-concrete structures, and metal toys for children. Copper ore is mined here. Its educational institutions include evening sections of the Sverdlovsk Institute of the National Economy and evening sections of a mining and metallurgical technicum.
